According to research and laid out in Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown. Here's How, talent is not relegated to genetics, luck, I.Q. or anything else hardcoded in ourselves. Talent is grown, and it is grown using one very specific technique. Practice. Slow, deliberate practice. This is what coding dojos are all about. They're not about being able to walk out with a very specific set of skills. It won't teach you how to write great code directly. It will, however, provide the ignition, desire, and structure needed to practice writing great code. Through this practice, this slow, deliberate, guided practice, you can start to build up your talent for writing code. You will gain experience and knowledge from all those who participate, as well as guidance from those leading the dojo. Coding dojos have very specific rules and steps that must be followed (TDD, Object Calisthenics, Pair Programming, etc.). These rules/constraints help create an environment for deliberate, meticulous practice. The more dojos you attend, the more practice you receive. Through very targeted practice, you begin to make your skills an ingrained part of your abilities; you grow your talent. Great skill can be obtained by anyone who is willing to make the necessary commitments, and since your reading this page, you probably already have. We look forward to seeing you at the dojo, and growing our talents together.
